Category D (PCV Bus) Training

Train to become a professional bus or coach driver with expert instruction designed to help you pass confidently and safely.

A Category D licence allows you to drive passenger-carrying vehicles with more than 16 seats, including buses, coaches, and double-deckers.

This is the licence required if you want to drive passengers commercially whether that’s for bus services, coach travel, private hire, or transport companies.

You’ll need a Category D licence if you:

Want to become a professional bus or coach driver

Are looking to start a career in the passenger transport industry

If you currently hold a Category B licence, you’ll need to apply for provisional Category D entitlement, complete a medical, and pass both theory and practical tests before becoming fully qualified.

What does the training involve?

At HGV Training Glasgow, we guide you through the entire process, from medical and theory preparation through to practical driving training.

Our structured, one-to-one training is tailored to your experience level, helping you build the confidence and skills needed to pass your test and drive safely with passengers on board.

Once qualified, your Category D licence also includes D1 entitlement, allowing you to drive minibuses as well.

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. I recently trained for a Class 1 license with Pass4me and managed to pass first time due to the great training I received. Best experience for driver training I've come across! 1st time pass on my class 1 with ease Tom top lad easy to get on with and plenty experience and Davey is brand new helped out a lot through the process. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of doing any sort of driver training to give the guys a call.
