Category D (PCV Bus) Training
Train to become a professional bus or coach driver with expert instruction designed to help you pass confidently and safely.
A Category D licence allows you to drive passenger-carrying vehicles with more than 16 seats, including buses, coaches, and double-deckers.
This is the licence required if you want to drive passengers commercially whether that’s for bus services, coach travel, private hire, or transport companies.
Is this course right for you?
You’ll need a Category D licence if you:
- Want to become a professional bus or coach driver
- Plan to transport passengers for hire or reward
- Are looking to start a career in the passenger transport industry
If you currently hold a Category B licence, you’ll need to apply for provisional Category D entitlement, complete a medical, and pass both theory and practical tests before becoming fully qualified.
What does the training involve?
At HGV Training Glasgow, we guide you through the entire process, from medical and theory preparation through to practical driving training.
Our structured, one-to-one training is tailored to your experience level, helping you build the confidence and skills needed to pass your test and drive safely with passengers on board.

Get Your PCV Licence and Start Driving Buses in Glasgow
Buses need drivers. Good ones are hard to find, and that’s exactly why this career keeps playing well year after year.
Our PCV licence training takes you from zero experience to test-ready in a matter of weeks. No prior bus driving needed. Just a full car licence and the will to learn.
A Category D licence training course qualifies you to drive vehicles carrying more than 8 passengers. Think city buses, school runs, coach trips, the lot.
Glasgow’s public transport network is growing. Councils and private operators are both short on qualified drivers right now, which means newly licensed drivers often walk straight into interviews.
Training starts with a medical check, then moves into theory and hazard perception. After that, you are in a real bus with a DVSA-qualified instructor, learning Glasgow’s actual routes and roundabouts, not some quiet test track miles away.
Most students finish within a few weeks. Some take a little longer, depending on how comfortable they get behind the wheel, and that’s fine too.
Training locally means you learn the roads examiners actually use. It also means our team knows which operators are hiring right after you pass, so you are not left wondering what comes next.
HGV Training Glasgow builds careers, not just licences, one confident driver at a time, right here in Glasgow’s streets.
