Category D1 (Minibus) Licence

Get qualified to drive minibuses with up to 16 passengers with professional training designed to help you pass confidently and safely.

D1 minibus training in Glasgow costs £995 and qualifies you to drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats. The price includes your medical, theory and case study, study material, 12 hours of in-vehicle training and your driving test.

A Category D1 licence allows you to drive a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats, with a vehicle weight between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes.

This licence is essential if you plan to transport passengers as part of your job or organisation including roles within schools, care services, community transport, and private hire.

If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997, you will need to apply for provisional D1 entitlement, complete a medical, and pass both theory and practical tests.

At HGV Training Glasgow, we guide you through the full process from start to finish including medical, theory preparation, and practical driving training.

You'll need a D1 licence if you:

  • Want to drive a minibus professionally
  • Transport passengers for work or voluntary organisations
  • Do not already have D1 entitlement on your licence

How D1 minibus training is arranged

Passenger work has its own theory content, so D1 is not simply a smaller lorry course. The stages below are booked in order and the £995 covers all of them.

  • D4 medical arranged in Glasgow and included in the price
  • DVLA provisional D1 application completed with you
  • Passenger-carrying theory, hazard perception and case study preparation with study material provided
  • 12 hours of one-to-one instruction in a minibus, including passenger safety and door procedures
  • DVSA practical test booked and included

Who needs D1 entitlement?

If you passed your car test on or after 1 January 1997, D1 is not automatically on your licence. You will need provisional D1 entitlement, a medical, and both theory and practical tests before you can carry passengers in a minibus.

D1 is common in schools, care and support services, community transport and private hire work.

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. Very happy customer.

I recently trained for a Class 1 licence with Pass4me and managed to pass first time due to the great training I received. Everyone was very helpful, helped me gain confidence, and made the training enjoyable with the daft patter. Highly recommend David and the rest of the team if you are looking to do HGV training!
