Yes. A D4 medical is required before the DVLA will issue provisional lorry or bus entitlement, and it is arranged for you and included in the price of our C1, Category C, C+E, D1 and Category D courses.

It depends on how quickly the paperwork and test dates come through rather than on the driving itself. The in-vehicle hours are 12 for C1, 16 for Category C and 25 for C+E, usually taken over consecutive days once your medical, provisional entitlement and theory are complete.

C1 covers 3,500kg to 7,500kg, Category C covers rigid lorries over 3,500kg, and C+E adds articulated and drawbar trailers. On the passenger side, D1 covers minibuses up to 16 seats and Category D covers buses and coaches with more than 16 seats.
