Category C+E (Class 1) Training in Glasgow

Upgrade to the highest level of lorry licence and take on articulated and drawbar work, with professional, tailored training.

Category C+E articulated lorry practical training in Glasgow
C+E practical training covers reversing, coupling and on-road driving.

Category C+E (Class 1) training in Glasgow costs £2,895 and is the highest level of lorry licence, covering articulated and drawbar vehicles with trailers over 750kg. The price includes your medical, theory and case study, study material, 25 hours of in-vehicle training and your driving test.

A Category C+E licence is the highest level of HGV qualification, allowing you to drive articulated (artic) and drawbar vehicles with trailers over 750kg.

This is the licence most professional drivers work towards, giving you the ability to drive the largest vehicles on the road and significantly expanding your career opportunities.

If you already hold a Category C (Class 2) licence, upgrading to C+E is the natural next step and opens the door to the highest level of HGV driving.

With a C+E licence, you can:

  • Drive articulated lorries (Class 1 vehicles)
  • Take on long-distance and national haulage work
  • Take on articulated and drawbar haulage contracts
  • Choose from a wider range of employers and job types

The route to your Class 1 licence

C+E takes the longest of our lorry courses because trailer work needs time behind the wheel. The stages below are booked in order, and we keep your test date in view from the start.

  • D4 medical arranged in Glasgow and included in the £2,895
  • DVLA provisional Category C+E application completed with you
  • Theory and case study preparation, or a straight upgrade if you already hold Category C
  • 25 hours of one-to-one instruction in an articulated vehicle
  • Coupling and uncoupling practised until it is second nature before your test
  • DVSA practical test booked and included in the price

What the C+E test involves

C+E training concentrates on the skills that separate an artic from a rigid: trailer control, reversing accuracy and reading the road far further ahead.

  • Coupling and uncoupling the trailer, demonstrated to the examiner
  • Reverse manoeuvre into a bay with a trailer
  • Managing swept path, cut-in and overhang at junctions and roundabouts
  • Load security, weight distribution and brake use on gradients
  • Vehicle safety questions and daily walk-round checks

Upgrading from Category C

If you already hold Category C, C+E is the natural next step and the training focuses almost entirely on the trailer. If you hold no vocational licence at all, you can still train directly for C+E — we will talk you through which route suits your experience when you call.

Once qualified, you can take on articulated and drawbar work, including national haulage, and you keep your Category C entitlement.

Making yourself more employable

C+E plus ADR is one of the most requested combinations in Scottish haulage, because it opens up fuel, chemical and industrial contracts. Driver CPC keeps your Driver Qualification Card valid. We also assist our drivers in obtaining full-time employment in the haulage industry once they qualify.

C+E Training (Class 1) — frequently asked questions

£2,895, including the medical, theory and case study, study material, 25 hours of in-vehicle training and the driving test. Finance options are available.

Class 1 is the licence that opens up trunking, container and national haulage work out of Glasgow, and it is where most of our ADR students end up too. If cost is the sticking point, ask about finance when you call — plenty of drivers spread the £2,895 rather than paying it in one go. Not sure which course is right for you? contact our Glasgow training team and we'll talk it through.

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. Very happy customer.

I recently trained for a Class 1 licence with Pass4me and managed to pass first time due to the great training I received. Everyone was very helpful, helped me gain confidence, and made the training enjoyable with the daft patter. Highly recommend David and the rest of the team if you are looking to do HGV training!
