ADR Training in Glasgow: Classes, Formats and What Each One Covers
ADR is built from a core module plus the classes and formats your work actually requires. Here is what each part covers, so you book the right combination rather than paying for days you will never use.
ADR training is modular. Every driver takes the core module, then adds packages or tanks depending on how the goods are carried, then adds the hazard classes they will haul. Our Glasgow courses start at £496 including classroom training, the SQA examination and materials, with refresher training from £300.
How the modules fit together
Think of ADR as a base plus options. The core module is mandatory and covers the legal framework, documentation, placarding, personal protective equipment and what to do in an incident. On top of that you take packages, tanks, or both, and then the specific hazard classes relevant to the loads you will carry.

The hazard classes in plain terms
- Class 2, gases: LPG, industrial and medical gases, refrigerated liquefied gases
- Class 3, flammable liquids: fuels, solvents, paints and much of the tanker work in Scotland
- Classes 4 and 5, flammable solids and oxidising substances including organic peroxides
- Class 6, toxic and infectious substances, including clinical waste work
- Class 8, corrosives: acids and alkalis, common in packaged distribution
- Class 9 and miscellaneous, including lithium battery consignments
Class 1 explosives and Class 7 radioactive material are specialist add ons. Tell us what your employer needs and we will confirm what we can deliver and when.
Which combination employers actually ask for
Fuel and chemical tanker work around Grangemouth and the wider central belt usually means core plus tanks plus Class 3, often with Class 8 added. General haulage and parcel work carrying mixed dangerous goods usually means core plus packages across several classes. If you are unsure, read the job advert to us on the phone and we will tell you the exact modules it is asking for.
Refresher training and certificate validity
An ADR certificate lasts five years. Refresher training must be completed and the examination passed before expiry, otherwise you retake the full course. Refresher training starts from £300, so booking before the certificate lapses is considerably cheaper than letting it run out.

You need a full licence for the vehicle you will drive, so most candidates already hold Category C or C+E. The ADR certificate itself is separate from the driving entitlement.
Five years. Refresher training and a further examination are required before it expires.
ADR training can count towards periodic Driver CPC hours where the course is registered for it. Ask us when booking and we will confirm for the dates you are taking.

I recently trained for a Class 1 licence with Pass4me and managed to pass first time due to the great training I received. Best experience for driver training I've come across! 1st time pass on my class 1 with ease. Tom top lad easy to get on with and plenty experience and Davey is brand new helped out a lot through the process.
