HGV Training in Glasgow from Our Blochairn Base

We are a Glasgow school, not a national booking agent passing you to whoever is nearest. Training runs from Blochairn, on roads you will be working on afterwards.

Training is delivered from 130 Blochairn Road, G21 2DU, a minute from the M8 at Junction 15 and beside the Blochairn market and distribution units. Category C is £1,695, C+E £2,895 and C1 £995, each including the medical, theory and case study, study material, in vehicle training and the test.

Learning on the roads you will actually drive

Glasgow driving is its own skill. The Townhead interchange, the Kingston Bridge approaches, tight access into city centre delivery bays and the climb out towards the north of the city all appear during training because they appear in the job. Drivers who train elsewhere and then start work here often find the first fortnight harder than the test was.

Where our Glasgow trainees end up working

  • Distribution and chilled work out of the Blochairn and Port Dundas units
  • Supermarket and pallet network trunking from the M8 corridor sites
  • Construction and tipper work supplying sites across the city
  • Waste, recycling and council contracts using rigid vehicles
  • Multi drop city centre work, where C1 and Category C both come into their own

Choosing between C1, Category C and C+E in a city

City work rewards manoeuvring more than mileage. A 7.5 tonne vehicle on C1 gets into places an 18 tonne rigid cannot, Category C covers the bulk of Glasgow depot work, and C+E is the one to take if you intend to trunk out of the city rather than deliver inside it.

Parking, arriving and the first morning

There is space to leave a car at Blochairn, which matters more than it sounds when the alternative is a city centre car park for a full training week. Buses from the city centre run close by, and we tell everyone the same thing on the first day: arrive early, bring your licence, and have breakfast.

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. Very happy customer.

I recently trained for a Class 1 licence with Pass4me and managed to pass first time due to the great training I received. Everyone was very helpful, helped me gain confidence, and made the training enjoyable with the daft patter. Highly recommend David and the rest of the team if you are looking to do HGV training!

Tom top lad easy to get on with and plenty experience and Davey is brand new helped out a lot through the process. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of doing any sort of driver training to give the guys a call.
