HGV Training for Edinburgh and Lothian Drivers
One motorway across and you are with us. Edinburgh drivers usually come to us for dates and continuity rather than distance, and the training suits a city with restricted access and tight delivery windows.
Edinburgh is around fifty minutes from our Glasgow base along the M8, and Lothian drivers train with us regularly. City centre restrictions, low emission requirements and narrow historic streets mean Edinburgh work leans towards smaller rigids and C1 vehicles, with the artic work concentrated at Newbridge, Sighthill and the port.
Why Edinburgh drivers travel west to train
Usually it comes down to dates. If a course elsewhere cannot start you for weeks, and you are trying to be licensed before a job offer expires, an hour on the M8 stops being the deciding factor. We are also independent rather than a booking agent, so the person you speak to is the person arranging your training.
The city itself shapes the licence choice
- Historic centre access favours 7.5 tonne vehicles, which is C1 at £995
- Supermarket and retail delivery into the city typically uses rigid Category C vehicles
- Articulated work sits out at Newbridge, Sighthill, Livingston and the port at Leith
- Construction traffic across the city and West Lothian keeps tipper and mixer demand steady
- Bus and coach work is significant across Lothian, which is Category D at £1,695
West Lothian in between
Livingston, Bathgate and Broxburn sit halfway along the corridor and are closer to us than the city itself. Drivers from there often find the journey shorter than commuting into Edinburgh for work, which makes booking consecutive training days straightforward.
Planning it properly
We arrange the D4 medical and the theory and case study early, then run the in vehicle hours in blocks: twelve hours for C1, sixteen for Category C and twenty five for C+E. The test is included in the course price, so nothing separate appears at the end.
Questions we get asked about this
Yes. Edinburgh and the Lothians are within our catchment and it is around fifty minutes along the M8 to our Glasgow base.
C1 at £995 covers 7.5 tonne vehicles that suit restricted historic streets, while Category C at £1,695 covers larger rigids used for retail and construction delivery.
Training runs from our Glasgow base with on road tuition on local routes, which include motorway, urban and manoeuvring work.
Yes, and West Lothian is a shorter run to us than Edinburgh itself, which makes consecutive training days easy to arrange.
Where to go next
- C1 licence training £995 for 7.5 tonne city vehicles.
- Category C training £1,695 for rigid distribution work.
- HGV training areas we cover the full 60 mile catchment.

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. Very happy customer.
