What the £1,695 includes

  1. 1The D4 medical that supports your provisional entitlement application.
  2. 2Theory test and CPC case study preparation.
  3. 3Study material for both.
  4. 416 hours of in-vehicle training in a Category C rigid lorry.
  5. 5The practical driving test.

Putting everything into one figure is deliberate. A Class 2 licence involves several stages, and the cost of each can add up quickly if they are bought separately. With one inclusive price, the number you budget for is the number you pay for the course.

Why Class 2 quotes look so different

When people search for the average cost of a Class 2 licence in the UK, they find a wide spread. Most of the difference comes from what is left out. Some quotes cover only the practical lessons and test. Others leave the medical, theory preparation or test fee as extras. Some include fewer hours in the vehicle. Before comparing any two quotes, line them up against the same list.

What Class 2 lets you drive

Class 2 is the everyday name for Category C. It covers rigid lorries over 3,500kg with a trailer up to 750kg. That includes most distribution, construction, waste and utility vehicles. It does not cover articulated lorries, which need Category C+E, or Class 1. If you are not sure the work you want needs Class 2 rather than C1 or Class 1, compare the categories first.

Class 2 full licence cost after training

If you want to drive professionally, budget for Driver CPC as well as the licence. New drivers need Module 2, which is prepared for within the course, and Module 4, which is £199 with us. After that, every five years you need 35 hours of periodic training, at £55 per seven-hour course. If you need dangerous goods work later, ADR starts from £496. You do not need to buy everything at once, and many employers fund the add-ons once you are in work.

Paying for the course

You can pay directly, ask about our finance options, or have your employer invoiced. If you are looking into public support, our funding guide explains the routes available in Scotland.

Keeping the total down

The cheapest Class 2 licence is the one you pass first time. Book the medical early so the provisional entitlement arrives before your lessons, revise for the theory and case study little and often, and tell us about your shift pattern so the 16 hours are not broken up by long gaps. Each of those steps reduces the chance of rebooking a test or repeating lessons, which is where unplanned cost usually comes from. If anything about your licence history or health might slow things down, mention it on the first call so it can be planned for.

Moving up to Class 1 later

Many drivers take Class 2 first, get experience and then add Class 1. Our C+E course is £2,895. If your goal is articulated work from the start, look at the Class 1 cost guide before booking, so you do not pay for a stage you may not need.

What Our Customers Say

Feedback from our learners

Once I passed my theory/hazard perception test, I the took my C1 training with Jordan, who made my driving experience a pleasure, Jordan was patient and made me feel at ease the whole time I was driving: advising on things I might change and letting me know when I had driven well etc, really relaxed me to the point of passing my test 1st time after 10hrs of lessons. Very happy customer.

Everyone was very helpful, helped me gain confidence, and made the training enjoyable with the daft patter. Highly recommend David and the rest of the team if you are looking to do HGV training!
